Do you travel a lot?

Do you want an international diploma?

Do you want your level of French to be recognized worldwide?

Do you want to obtain the French citizenship?

Consider taking the DELF.

The Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française (DELF) and the Diplôme Approfondi en Langue Française (DALF) are official diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify foreign candidates’ proficiency in French.

The DELF B2 affords access to all French universities and to an ever growing number of European and francophone universities, eliminating the need for pre-admission French language tests.  The DELF B1 is the minimum level required for French university, for the TAPIF program, and for French citizenship.

The DELF diplomas are given the same recognition as all official diplomas/degrees issued by the French Ministry of National Education and have lifelong validity.

DELF is composed of 6 independent diplomas that correspond to the levels stated by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, in use at the AF in Charlotte and at many Alliance Française locations around the world.

This exam is required of foreign nationals enrolling in French Universities. Candidates can register for the examination of their choice, according to their level. Each examination evaluates the four communication competencies : reading, listening, writing and speaking.

Please visit the FEI website to find information about each test.

Not sure which DELF exam to take?

Use our placement test Evalang. The test evaluates deux competencies: reading and listening. It will give you a fair indication of your current level.

Alliance Française de Charlotte will offer in 2024 four DELF diplomas: A1, A2, B1, and B2.

Two parts to the DELF exam:

Written Exam (collective exam): Listening comprehension, reading comprehension, and written expression
One on One Exam (individual exam): Speaking and oral interaction.

There are three different versions of DELF offered at AF de Charlotte:

  • DELF for the general public (tout public), ages 18+

  • DELF junior for children ages 12-18

  • DELF prim for children ages 7-12

Please note that exam centers in other cities may offer more sessions throughout the year and may offer DALF exams (DALF C1 and C2).
