The Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (DELF) – “tout public” version – is an official diploma issued by the French Ministry of National Education. It is designed for adults and older teenagers (17 years and above), whether foreigners or French nationals, who wish to develop their French language skills for personal, academic, or professional purposes.
There are four DELF diplomas, each corresponding to the first four levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A1, A2, B1, and B2.
The DELF is an internationally recognized diploma of high quality, aligned with the CEFR, and valid for life. Depending on the level, the DELF can enhance a résumé (CV) and facilitate employment opportunities in companies where French is the working language.
DELF B1 diploma is currently required in order to apply for French nationality.
DELF B2 facilitates access to French, European, or Francophone universities and to certain Grandes Écoles within the French system.
The “tout public” designation means that exam topics may address all areas of daily life: public, personal, professional, and educational.
Important:
All parts of the DELF exam (listening, reading, writing, and speaking) are held in person.
Please be sure to arrive on time for the collective part of the exam. Late candidates will not be admitted once the audio file has started.
Candidates must present a valid photo ID on exam day (e.g., passport, driver’s license, green card).
Practical Information: Exam dates, times, and prices are determined by the French Embassy in Washington, D.C., and France Éducation International. The date and time of the individual oral exam are scheduled directly between the candidate and the Alliance Française de Charlotte.
